The old version of Total Recall had a lot of clues to say that it was just possibly a dream, but this version is edited to the point where it is most certainly reality. The series would be structured like the BBC Sherlock, with extra long episodes, 2-4 episodes per book, 3-4 books per season. But animated so the actors don't age too much over the like 12 season span. Quaid has his memory wiped, but upon returning home, both Doug's best friend and wife try to murder him. The only real argument that can be made here is that these scenes were needed simply to make the movie work. You see, apparently, Douglas Quaid is actually a secret agent, and in trying to implant this vacation memory, the Rekall techs inadvertently uncovered the fact that the life he's living now is actually false. The Rekall-technicians MENTIONED to each other, that the “blue sky on Mars” was the PLOT of the “Ego Trip–” along with “2-headed monsters” (i.e. The first is when Douglas Quaid first visits the Rekall facility.Doug's wife suggests they go on vacation and Doug is really obsessed with visiting Mars. I'd just do the full Discworld series with an unlimited budget.
