You could call it a psychological mystery novel for middle-grade readers, and that would be closer. She shows that your mental health can really take a hit after losing someone you love, but she also shows that it’s okay to be upset and to be sad and that it’s okay to get help.

Traveling from their home in London to visit her father's best friend in New York should provide something to brag about when she gets back home. Mila, an intelligent and sensitive 12 year old girl, recounts a visit to the US with her father, searching for an old friend who has disappeared. Adults do not have all the answers. Not a great deal happens externally but Mila's quirky, honest voice makes this an engaging and satisfying read. This book is the second one that I have read by this author.

I stayed awake until the early hours to finish this exciting, moving YA book. They go ahead with the trip, hoping to be able to find him. Like most of us, she will find the humans’ motivations suspect, not very sensible, not very grown up.
the plot drags along leading up to nothing i spent hours reading this and it wasted my time with this letdown of a climax. Compelling throughout.
