Students will study culinary techniques of food handling and preparation, health and safety standards, the use of tools and equipment, the origins of foods and event planning and will learn about tourism attractions across Ontario.

Students will reason mathematically and communicate their thinking as they solve multi-step problems. Research skills will be developed and used to assist in the production and presentation of an interdisciplinary product. Students will analyze a range of forms and stylistic elements of literary texts and respond personally, critically and creatively to them. They will also enrich their understanding and appreciation of diverse French-speaking communities, and will develop skills necessary for lifelong language learning.This is an introductory course for students who have little or no knowledge of French or who have not accumulated the minimum of 600 hours of elementary Core French instruction. Students will learn about the effects of physical activity on health and performance, the evolution of physical activity and sport, and the physiological, psychological, and social factors that influence an individual’s participation in physical activity and sport. Through the analysis of literary texts and media works, students will develop an appreciation of the wealth and complexity of Indigenous writing. Students will explore the importance of law, analyzing contemporary legal issues and their relevance to daily life. Students will explore the realities and opportunities of the workplace and examine factors that affect success, while refining their job search and employability skills. The course explores post-secondary learning and career options, prepares students for managing work and life transitions and helps students focus on their goals through the development of a career plan.This course provides opportunities for students to communicate in French about everyday matters and topics of personal interest in real-life situations. Students will use a broad range of tools and equipment, enhance their skills in computer-aided design and collaborate in managing a project. Through participation in a wide range of physical activities and exposure to a broader range of activity settings, students enhance their movement competence, personal fitness, and confidence. Students will develop an awareness of environmental and societal issues related to construction technology, and will explore secondary and post-secondary pathways leading to careers in the industry.This exploratory course introduces students to concepts and skills in construction technology, which encompasses plumbing, electrical wiring, masonry, heating/cooling, carpentry and woodworking. The course helps students build confidence and motivation to pursue opportunities for success in secondary school and beyond.This course provides students with workplace opportunities to develop the essential skills and work habits required for success in all types of workplaces. Students will analyze models of effective writing; use a workshop approach to produce a range of works; identify and use techniques required for specialized forms of writing; and identify effective ways to improve the quality of their writing. Students will explore a variety of dramatic sources from various cultures and representing a range of genres. Students will explore a variety of medical technologies, pathogens and disease, nutritional science, public health issues and biotechnology. Students will extend their understanding of quadratic relations, as well as of measurement and geometry, investigate situations involving exponential growth, solve problems involving compound interest, solve financial problems connected with vehicle ownership and develop their ability to reason by collecting, analyzing and evaluating data involving one and two variables. Student teams will manage a large software development project, from planning through to project review. An important focus will be on using language with precision and clarity and incorporating stylistic devices appropriately and effectively. Students will be given the opportunity to design and create products and/or provide services related to the various technological areas or industries, working with a variety of tools, equipment and software commonly used in industry. Students will study the processes of disease and factors contributing to health and well-being in early and later life and will develop skills required to meet the needs of children and older adults (care skills).
